About Toronto Wireless Community Network

What is TWCN?

TWCN is the Toronto Wireless Community Network. It is a Community Network (CN) that advocates the proliferation of a multi-tier and Toronto-wide public internetwork, based on access via the IEEE 802.11b specification (commonly referred to as 802.11 High Rate).

At the heart of this CN is the idea that an individual's network, and bandwidth, is theirs to do with as they see fit. As a result, should an individual choose to allow the public access to these resources, it is their right to do so.

There is no "official process" for joining TWCN. Interested parties should start by joining our mailing list which will help you keep track of community activity. Additionally, participants should spend some time reviewing the nodes section of this website, which includes a guide on how to set up a Wireless Network Access Point (node), and instructions on how to register it with the TWCN database on PersonalTelco.net.
