About Toronto Wireless Community Network

Mission Statement of TWCN

TWCN is a Community Network that advocates the proliferation of a multi-tier and Toronto-wide public internetwork, based on access via the IEEE 802.11b specification. Through the growth of such an ubiquitous network, it is hoped that Torontonians will gain free public access to a wealth of important resources and tools, including access to the Internet.

High Level Goals (Ramifications of Current Mission Statement)

• Facilitate the realization and growth of this network in such a way as to maximize its effectiveness.
• Serve as a clearing house of information useful to the establishment of wireless network access points in the Greater Toronto Area.
• Promote an open dialog between network users, participants, and the service providers that enable these access points.
• Negotiate and support a body of clear and respectful network use policies.
• Educate the public-at-large as to the benefits of such a network, and the technologies employed.

On being a "Community Network"
